Floor Coverings
Coloured floor screeds have become very popular, as a result the manufacturers have met this challenge and introduced a whole range of products that can be mixed and designed to improve your home's appeal. From multi coloured screeds, pressed (patterned) to polished and sealed ordinary concrete. You choose!
Differing products have different thickness requirements, we will make sure you have the best suited product. My team and I have just completed a training course in the application of ultra-thin coloured cement floors. This type of floor is very popular in the US as the application time to use is very low, they are extremely durable used in one of the world's largest fast food chains and appeal for the differing textures, colours and looks.
Types of Concrete Screed Floors;
- Concrete Screed 1
- Smooth coloured floors that can easily include objects such as wood panels, natural stone, pebbles, glass.
- The final finish and colour can be integrated into your development early on in the process making the work easier and reducing the time frame.
- These floors take time and require at least a week before they can be used.
- Cement Screed 2
- Smooth coloured floors made from a special blend of white cement tinted to almost any colour resulting in a smooth floated surface.
- ultra thin coating floated onto the surface resulting in a very similar surface to that above.
- To enhance the colour effect we can mottle the surface colour to create an even more unique colour.
- Unlike the floors above these have a very short application to use time frame.
- Cement Topping
- Ultra thin polymer cement coatings applied and treated in a very short time frame.
- One or more coats of thin material can be applied in less than two days (depends on the area though).
- The unique property of this product is the extremely fast initial cure time, unlike ordinary cement that takes 7 days to reach 70% strength this product reaches 70% in only 24 hours.
- Although not our focus ordinary concrete floors can be ground and polished to an ultra smooth surface.
- Coloured Concrete - we cast a full depth concrete slab of a selected colour, this is then finished to you requirement.
- Exposed Aggregate - this is a real feature of a coloured concrete floor, we cast and then grind the surface to expose some of the aggregate creating a truly unique feature which is difficult, if not impossible to replicate.
- We also have various coloured aggregate to be exposed, reds, whites, yellow, blue and black, just to create that UNIQUE floor for you.
- Polished Concrete floors, this process gives you a fine very smooth surface floor, we can in the process expose the aggregate like above to create that feature you are looking for.
- Acid Staining
- We can alter the colour of any cured concrete that is not sealed, we have a wide range of colours that will enhance your existing floors or highlight a coloured screed floor. Acid stains can be patterned and with the use of prints create special borders or features in your floor.
- Cautionary
- Not matter what floor you wish to lay, if the substrate (or base concrete slab) is poor, the floor will be poor. There are ways to improve the existing surface but these are not guaranteed. In cases we would rather walk away from a potential job than sit with problems down the line due to a poor substrate.
- Good bases mean good floors, poor base will result in the screed, topping or even tiles to lift and crack.
- By nature of the product, cement will form minor cracks, these are from the cure process. We do our best to limit these cracks but they are inevitable.
- A crack in the existing floor will form a crack in the screed.
Some of these products require more work than others and some need a longer cure time which will result in your not being able to use that room for a fair period while the cements set.
